pay property taxes michigan state of michigan tax return-manual review?
Has anyone ever had their e-filed michigan state tax return selected by computer for manual review? If so what was the outcome and did this impact the federal return in any way? I am self-employed and had paid a lot of property tax this year (close to $9,000.00) and also over $11,000.00 in mortgage interest which does look a little strange based on my 1099 MISC income…but I have the paperwork to prove what was paid. I do not have any large deductions that would be of concern.
If your property taxes are higher than average in your area, this will happen.
Happened to us the first year we bought our home because we had to pay the higher commercial tax rate instead of homestead (we bought after May 1 and got screwed!) for that year.
They will send you a worksheet that will request documentation for anything that is out of whack.

pay property taxes michigan How do I find out and state capital gains tax on the sale of a vacation home in Michigan?
I bought one Holiday from my grandparents in Michigan in 2001 for $ 60,000 ($ 150K probably below the market). I have some small improvements to the property (approximately $ 10K manufactured). My wife and I have never been so declared, as our primary home. There are an estimated $ 10K in personal property in this transaction sold. I am in the process of selling the property for $ 370,000. I want to make sure I keep enough money back for all the tax consequences, we shall see in the next year. I am curious if I have to pay income tax or to have in my home state of Michigan? How would this affect sales of our federal Registration? Capital gains, Alternative Minimum Tax and how much you believe we should start saving again for Uncle Sam?

Michigan Bankruptcy Law Helps you Choose the Bankruptcy Act for you
The word bankruptcy conjures up frightening images of your entire life collapsing around your ears. In this nightmare you feel as if you have no one to help you. This is not the case as the various states have various laws like the Michigan bankruptcy law, to help you out. These laws can help you choose the type of bankruptcy act that will be the most helpful for your situation.
Before you can apply for a bankruptcy hearing Michigan bankruptcy law requires that you go through with credit counseling at an approved government counseling agency at least 6 months before you file for bankruptcy.
As the bankruptcy process can be very complicated you might want to ask a bankruptcy lawyer to explain the Michigan bankruptcy law. This way you will understand what is needed from you before the courts can state that you are bankrupt.
Before you start the process of bankruptcy filing you will need to gather all of the documents that are needed by Michigan bankruptcy law to prove that you need to be declared bankrupt.
The documents that you need will include any deeds and titles to land and vehicles that you own, loan documents, your tax returns for the last 2 years, property and assets, all secured and unsecured debts with the names of the creditors listed, monthly living expenses, and major financial transactions for the last 2 years. You will also need to itemize your current income sources.
Once these various documents have been presented to your bankruptcy lawyers you will be required by the Michigan bankruptcy law to undergo a means test. The means test will be based on your monthly income and living expenses.
If your monthly income and expenses are more than what is the average for Michigan employee earners you can’t file for chapter 7 bankruptcy. Instead you will be able to apply for chapter 13.
In the Michigan bankruptcy law chapter 13 allows you to keep all pf your assets and property. You can pay off your creditors using the wages that you have left from your monthly expenses.
The chapter 7 bankruptcy act will require that a bank trustee liquidate your various assets to pay off your creditors. Once all of the debts have been paid, you will need to go through with a financial management instructional course after you have filed for bankruptcy.
The Michigan bankruptcy law is designed to protect you from being harassed as you try to settle the various debts that you have. The act of declaring that you are bankrupt should only be taken if you have no other course left open to you.

pay property taxes michigan Homestead on taxes ..?
I own a condo in Michigan, and recently moved to a different state. What address should I use on my taxes when I file?
My MI address or the current and why?
Also, for next year ( i know it is too soon), would I be able to use MI as my homestead ( I will still be paying property taxes, and mortgage interest, bc am not selling it or renting it out), and how would that work?
Thanks in advance : )
I am in MIchigan also and a licensed real estate agent.
Technically, you cant claim the MI home as a homestead because you really dont live there. For your income taxes – use the address where you want any refund or correspondence to go. I am not sure that the county/city government will find you and make you switch to non-homestead. If you dont own the place in your new state – it’s not like you are claiming that as a homestead – just temporary.

State Worker's abuse of the compensation & benefits program is Rampant, costs millions
Recent investigations in several Member States public-sector workers have shown unethical abuse sick leave, and compensatory behavior does pay millions of dollars in bloated payments made on entry into retirement. With tax revenues to fall and a few major financial cuts in government programs to deficit balanced budgets, many states simply can not afford to rampant abuse of the system continues unchecked.
He claims that managers throughout Calfornia government line up, following a systemic worldview of the right allow their employees to collect unused vacation, sick and comp time in a row, the agenda retirement payments of $ 100,000 or more.
Obviously, California is not alone in public sector unfair compensation and benefits practices, according to the State of New Jersey Commission of Investigation. In a scathing report delivered in December 2009 entitled, "The Beat Goes On, waste and abuse in the Local Government Employee Compensation and Benefits, "say the investigators story after story of the rampant abuse of the system:
"At a time of economic hardship unprecedented since the Great Depression depleted budgets and austerity the theme of the day and in the private sector, the gravy train continues without hindrance for selected Groups of people working in public accounting roles. "
Police in New Jersey point to their payments on paid sick leave in the Retirement as their "pension funds." And reported in one of the greatest abuse of the system, a doctor, the California prison substance abuse facility in Corcoran worked, received a grant of CA $ 815,000 when he left the civil service.
The doctor, Kim Nguyen, said in an interview that a high workload it held by the use of his leave. His boss paid special layers for comp time instead of overtime. "They never put enough doctors," he said. "I I never complained, so they thought that we could handle it … They asked us to work more. "
Critics say the payments system by lax Administration and generous benefits are not available to private sector workers defined highlight. The California Department of Personnel Administration administers workplace issues 237 000 for state employees.
During the contract negotiations in 2005, they have proposed limiting the holiday payment cap, but the Idea abandoned in favor of other provisions, according to Julie Chapman, chief deputy director of policy. Trade union representatives "gingerly" to managers who were exceeding the CAP more frequently than rank-and-file workers. government documents confirm that about 20% of non-union members or managers had their caps from end-2008 exceeded as opposed to about 4% of the employees union.
"The unions cried mightily strong," said Chapman. "They told us explicitly that it is not so much of a rank-and-file problem, it was a management problem. If the department proposed a similar raid in management, came the California State Association of Supervisors back, so that the enforcement of the leave cap from the negotiating table.
In the U.S. state of California between 2006 and mid 2009, Chapman admits that at least 100 million U.S. dollars, and "perhaps ten million was more" done to pay state workers to retire.
Most government employees may apply to work a maximum 80 days holiday, or 640 hours. Some people collect 'annual leave time, "including Vacation and sick days that lie under the same limits.
Private sector holiday caps on the employer, including Nestle USA, Oracle, Western Digital max out at 280 hours in contrast to the 640 hours for state employees authorized. And at least three other large countries, namely, New York, Florida and Texas allow no employees have such a high cap on holiday and sick pay.
Although these investigative reports are shocking in the depth and frequency of abuse, they are not surprising. Who would have thought that such a blatant abuse of Compensation and Benefits program would be politically so explosive that no one within the will to change current practices seem.
Not one is more on the plate just yet. But stay tuned, because there is supposedly a referendum for the November ballot in California designed to combat excessive retirement packages for newly recruited civil servants, grandfathering in older workers. Let us hope that it not too late. The state is supposed 20000000000 $ dollar in debt. If California or New Jersey in payment, taxpayers all over our country will be asked to pick up the his finances for the undisciplined spending without their own fault.
My recommendation is to double the liability of your organization's vacation, sick and compensatory time Practices, to ensure that you are on them. Work with your CFO to ensure that you understand your organization's liabilities in this area and willing to finance this debt. and find the strength to them in check, if necessary ….

pay property taxes michigan Is this legal in Michigan court system?
Probate judge removed personal representative who was paying taxes, insurance and any other estate costs. He then replaced him with a court appointed personal representative (lawyer) who is not paying the property taxes the home owners insurance and the money is in the deceased ones account. He is causing home owners insurance to be canceled today and interest on property taxes because he is not doing his job. Are the court systems allowed to get away with this? Also we have no lawyer because he quit after trial. Thanking you in advance for any help.
Dear Boxadogbiscuits the lawyer was being paid and also filed a lien for more than what he is owed. He also deposited a money order into a family members trust fund that was suppposed to be paid to a witness. He also failed to admit our evidence during trial. Should I go on Boxadogbiscuits or should I consider the source. You must be related to a lawyer.
Something sounds fishy here. The personal representative is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the estate until it can be appropriately distributed to the heirs. It seems as if the original personal representative was doing just that, but for some reason the judge saw fit to remove that person and replace him/her with a new representative who is not upholding the responsibilities.
Contact the State Bar of Michigan to double check the duties are of the personal representative. You may also need to make a complaint about that the court appointed representative is not fulfilling those duties. The Bar may also be able to point you in the direction/help you find an attorney in your area that specializes in probate law and could advocate for your interests/make sure the estate is handled properly.
