Purpose of This Computer Program The purpose of this application is to help employees to ensure that they do not have too much or too little income tax withheld from their pay. It is not a replacement for Form W-4, but most people will find it more accurate and easier to use than the worksheets that accompany Form W-4. You may use the results of this program to help you complete a new Form W-4, which you will submit to your employer.
Tips For Using This Program
Have your most recent pay stubs handy.
Have your most recent income tax return handy.
Fill in all information that applies to your situation.
Estimate values if necessary, remembering that the results can only be as accurate as the input you provide.
Consult the information links embedded in the program whenever you have a question.
Print out the final screen that summarizes your input and the results, then use it to complete a new Form W-4 (if necessary), and keep it for your records.
Who Can Benefit From This Application?
Employees who would like to change their withholding to reduce their tax refund or their balance due;
Employees whose situations are only approximated by the worksheets on the paper W-4 (e.g., anyone with concurrent jobs, or couples in which both are employed; those entitled to file as Head of Household; and those with several children eligible for the Child Tax Credit);
Employees with non-wage income in excess of their adjustments and deductions, who would prefer to have tax on that income withheld from their paychecks rather than make periodic separate payments through the estimated tax procedures.
For Special Situations If your situation is among those listed below, you will probably achieve more accurate withholding by following the instructions in Publication 919, How Do I Adjust My Tax Withholding?
If you will be subject to alternative minimum tax, self-employment tax, or other taxes; or
If any of your current jobs will end before the end of the year.
NOTE: The information you provide is anonymous and will only be used for purposes of this calculation. It will not be shared, stored or used in any other way, nor can it be used to identify the individual who enters it. It will be discarded when you exit this program.
2009 federal taxes medical deductions Federal Tax Returns!!?
I am resident alien, on H1-B Visa. I got married last year in march and my wife joined me in June, on a dependent H4 Visa. What kind of expenses for my wife can I claim as a Tax Deduction??
For ex:
1. Can I claim the flight charges for her travel to the US??
2. She has started her MBA from Spring 2009, but I had to spend money on her exams Like GMAT and TOEFL. Can I claim the exam fees as deductions?
3. Can I claim any medical related expenses like hospital visit co-pays for my wife as deductions?
4. She does not have a Individual Tax Identification Number, so do I have to file my return manually along with the application for an ITIN for my wife??
Thanks for the help
1. No, that’s a personal expense.
2. No, those are never deductible.
3. Yes, subject to the usual 7.5% AGI limitation and the $10,900 Standard Deduction of course.
4. Yes, you must attach the Form W-7 to your paper return, along with apostilled copies of her proof of ID and the joint resident statement (if required) and mail the package to the Austin, TX Service Center. Allow 14 to 16 weeks processing time.

FASCISM: GE & Others Pay No/Little Taxes; Lobby For Loopholes But Not To Change Corp Tax Rate
federal taxes hope credit Can I pay a higher federal tax refund as if I hope to make the tax credit claim?
Last year i claiming the Hope Tax Credit and I think I got a surplus of a refund paid in comparison to federal taxes. This year i graduated nursing school and would like Hope Tax Credit entitlement for the second year. That would mean, I earned $ 9,152 as full-time student and paid $ 333 to federal withholdings. Will I receive more than $ 333 back this loan? Thank you!
No, the college tax credits (Hope and Lifetime Learning) are not "refundable" tax credits. This tax credit will only wipe income tax liability to the federal government. They are only your $ 333 back. In your case, if you're single and you say, They are (and nobody else), then most of your income is not taxed already. If you do not claim the education tax credit, but claimed it as "tuition fees Deduction "(line 34 on Form 1040), you may be better off, because your adjusted gross income is low enough that you get all your $ 333 back, plus it can state your refund. Most (if not all) states that an income tax to determine your taxable income by using your adjusted gross income (Line 38 on Form 1040). If you claim the Hope credit, then your adjusted gross income is $ 9,152 would be. The FBI is not from tax the first $ 8750 ($ 5350 std deduction, $ 3,400 exemption). That is, only $ 402 is taxable. The Hope Credit extinguish probable that the tax debt. They would Your $ 333 back. But your state income tax would be charged $ 9,152 adjusted gross income. If you claim the deduction (and not Hope credit), then large set Income would be $ 9,152 - minus what you paid in the classroom (the deduction is limited to $ 4,000). The $ 5,350 std deduction would wipe out taxable income, you would get back $ 333 yoyr. But if you do your state taxes, you are taxed at the Adjusted Gross Income of only $ 5,152. This will be the same Federal reimbursement, but can help your state refund. Try it both ways and see which works best for you.
