I’m writing a morality paper and need some support for why it’s immoral to only donate to charity because you want to get the tax deduction.
THANKS!

Are you a Conservative or a Liberal?

Among those shocked by President Obama’s 2010 budget, the most surprising are the true-blue liberals who run most of America’s nonprofits, universities and charities. How dare he limit tax deductions for charitable giving! They’re afraid they’ll get fewer donations, but they should be more concerned that Mr. Obama’s policies will shove them aside in favor of the New Charity State.

Obama’s tax plan greatly reduces tax deductions for charitable donations. Instead Congress will be appropriating funds to the charities of their choice.
I was just reading another question on here and I think it’s funny that most people thought he was making this up. Why do people find it so hard to believe?

I’m confused is it 50% of your cash donation to charity that is deductible or is it only up to 50% of your income that is deductible?
Someone please clarify.

I want to donate a working pick-up truck to charity. I have heard all about the tax deduction I would be eligible for, but isn’t a deduction only helpful if I OWE money on my taxes each year? I always, always get money back… so will donating a car be beneficial for me? Or am I better off just selling the truck?

Isn’t it a discriminatory practice to limit the tax deductions of some Americans while others have them available? Why should Americans tolerate this blatant discrimination? Wouldn’t a flat tax on all income of all earners (multinational corporations as well) be a better plan. All earners would pay the same % of their income to the Treasury. No tax deductions, no tax credits.
The "poor" would not pay agreater per centage the per centage wold be exactly the same…say 7% for all tax payers.
If we used a flat tax we could then use the revenue the Treasury collected and charity monies to help those in need…the American people are the most charitable people on Earth and we would help our own in greater numbers.

I’m donating some clothes and other items to charity. I will ask for a reciept. But in the past when i have been given a reciept, its very non-specific and might have check boxes that say "2 bags of women’s clothes" or "furniture-bedroom-large size" or something to that effect. How do i then determine the value of the donated items when i am entering itemized deductions on my taxes?

I’m writing a paper and want to make sure that I get the facts straight
Is the current tax system of the US like this?: the amount of tax deducted is more than the amount donated to charity. for ex, if I donate 00. then I get more than that deducted from my taxes, eg, 00? THANKS!
