If you only work part-time or at a low hourly rate, its possible that, using 3 exemptions, no federal tax would be withheld.
The withholding tables have your income down the left side of the table and the number of allowances claimed across the top. the dollar amount where the row and column meet is the amount of withholding.
If its a dash, not federal withholding.
One possibility is you are a contractor…perhaps doing installations, or repairs. In that case, you are in business for yourself and must take care of your records.
Otherwise, if you are an employee of Sears, you should contact your human resources dept.
Claiming three allowances on your W-4 says either than you will be claiming three exemptions on your tax return, or that you have other deductions that will add up to a similar amount. If you had three exemptions, maybe could claim yourself and two dependents, you could make close to $19,000 for the year and not owe any income tax, so they won’t take any out if you don’t make anywhere near that. If you don’t have any dependents, change your allowances back to one or at most two if you want to be sure to not owe.
