Have Maryland Income Taxes Withheld

I live in MD but work full-time VA … I have to file taxes for MD State?
My home address is in Maryland, but I work in Virginia. All my state taxes withheld from 2008 income for the year in VA (where my employer). My tax preparer for federal taxes filed with VA State Resident return. He said that since I had worked in Virginia, and my taxes withheld there, I do not need to file taxes MD. Is that correct? What will happen to me if I checked? Thank you!
If the person who prepared your taxes was a professional, he is probrably knew what he was talking about. I live in MD, but I've always heard that you have to file for both countries not just one or the other.
